Combat Boots

Proper footwear is an important aspect of many outdoor activities. Hiking, hunting, playing airsoft, whatever it may be, good boots can be the difference between a good and a bad day. I prefer combat boots.

Combat boots are my first choice of footwear when in the outdoors. Combat boots are military tested in the most extreme situations. Combat boots are durable and reliable.

Good Combat Boots

If you flip through a military supply catalog or browse a website you will see several pages of combat boots. For the novice it can be difficult to differentiate the good combat boots from the bad.

You will notice some boots are cheaper than others. These combat boots resemble the standard issue military combat boots but are not mil-spec, but rather modified for civilian use. For average or light use, these combat boots will be fine. Keep an eye out and be sure to avoid the really cheap jungle boots. These are usually around $20-$30. Unfortunately for you they will fall apart after about two days of good use.

If you need a cheap pair of combat boots that are usable your only choice is used combat boots. For obvious reason a worn out pair of combat boots are less than ideal.

Combat Boot Brands

There are several highly recommended brands of combat boots. Altama is one. They manufacture both mil-spec and non-mil-spec combat boots. If you are looking for desert combat boots give them a shot first. They also produce jungle boots, ripple-sole boots, and leather combat boots. The mil-spec combat boots run around $100.

Danner boots are a little more heavier and expensive but also very durable. For hardcore use Danner Acadia or Ft. Lewis boots are highly recommended. These boots will run you over $200. Both the Acadia and Ft. Lewis boots contain Gore-tex, effectively making them waterproof.

There are several other good bood brands out there as well. I can also recommend Wellco and Thorogood combat boots.

More Boots

Mil-spec combat boots are not your only option. There are several other urban tactical boots which you may find fit you and your needs better. Comfort may be an issue for many people, but with most high-end combat boots this is not a problem.

For the past few years the Oakley Assault boot has been a bit of a phenomon. Originally it was issued only to special forces soldiers. Now of days these things are not very hard to find. Oakley Assault boots are very expensive running over $200 a pair. From what I hear their comfort is unmatched.

The combat boot you choose may be determined solely on the money you have available. Don't put footwear at the bottom of your to-buy list, whether in airsoft or for your job. You can get by with less than optimal footwear for short periods of time. Once the weather and terrain gets bad you are going to really wish you were wearing a good pair of combat boots. Good luck on your search!
